Seven days to Northeast Vietnam motorbike tours via Vu Linh, Ba Be lakes, Cao Bang, Quang Uyen, Ban Gioc waterfalls, Highway 4 and Lang Son.

NORTHEAST VIETNAM MOTORCYCLE ADVENTURE
Northeast Vietnam is one of the most scenic areas in Northern Vietnam. Despite the low and medium mountains, breathtaking landscapes like Cao Bang mountains, Ba Be lake, Ban Gioc waterfalls and Highway 4 plus warm and friendly Tay and Nung people will definitely make you feel very welcome. This Northeast Vietnam Motorcycle Adventure is recommended for both experienced and inexperienced riders.
On the other hand, if you want to take it a bit harder, we can ride further to Bao Lac and ride to Cao Bang on rough roads. At Ban Gioc waterfalls, we also have some challenging tracks for you. These options can be arranged if your riding skill is at least from intermediate levels.
Northeast Vietnam Motorcycle Adventure From Hanoi Itinerary
Day 1: Hanoi – Vu Linh. ~180 km, ~8 h.
Today is the first day of this 7 days Northeast Vietnam Motorcycle Adventure. To get out of Hanoi safely, we will have a short briefing to let you know about the rules. In addition, the guide will show you how to understand him by his body language. We start around 9.30am after the rush hours.
Ride to Vu Linh in 8 hours including stops for photos, drinks, and lunch. In general, the road is easy and mostly sealed. We are welcome in the house of our Dao friends. Honestly, the welcome is exceptional.
Day 2: Vu Linh – Ba Be. ~190 km, ~6 h.
You ride from Vu Linh to Ba Be through Tuyen Quang. In fact, the road is sealed almost all the way. However, the last part of 10 kilometres is still wild and bumpy. Pac Ngoi is a Tay village, in the middle of the primitive forest. Mr. Sao, our host will welcome us in his house.
Day 3: Ba Be. Boating.
After two long riding days, we can stay up late. The only activity today is boating on Ba Be lake and river. Then go to market (if it is the day you arrive). Stop at a waterfall, beautiful swim etc. Ong pirate, the chief of Dau Dang waterfall will prepare lunch for us. Down the waterfall, we could visit the village and a small school (only a few pupils during the summer). Spend the second night in Mr. Sao’s stilt house.
If time allows, we can even ride a bit to the forest. The roads can either be rough or sealed depending on your skills. Just discuss this with your guide.
Day 4: Ba Be – Cao Bang. ~170 km, ~8 h.
This is a beautiful ride up to Cao Bang province. There are few passes from where you can dominate the area. The road is easy, but there are many blind curves. While riding, we can stop very often for photos. Altogether, with stops for drinks and food, it should be an 8-hour journey.
Stay in a hotel in Cao Bang at a nice hotel by Bang Giang river.
Day 5: Cao Bang – Ban Gioc Waterfalls – Quang Uyen. ~130 km, ~2 h.
Having obtained permission from the border police, we make our way through spectacular scenery to Vietnam’s most impressive waterfalls. Weather permitting we can swim right up to where the 50 m high falls hit the river. In general, Ban Gioc is most beautiful in rainy season between June and October.
Then ride 1 more hour back to the beautiful village of Quang Hoa, in the middle of a mountain cirque. This is the territory of Nung An people.
Spend the night at our friend’s house. In fact, the hostess is a great cook and hopefully, you will find her food some of the best.
Day 6: Quang Hoa – Lang Son. ~150 km, ~5 h.
Drive from Quang Hoa to Lang Son. Currently, Lang Son is the biggest trading post between Vietnam and China now due to its distance to Hanoi. In addition, this is our chance to buy some cheap Chinese electronics like a phone charger, power banks, toys, replica products etc.
Overnight in a hotel.
Day 7: Lang Son – Hanoi. ~150 km, ~3 h.
If the weather is nice, we can then continue driving toward South to Mau Son. Mau Son is 30 km away from Lang Son, 1.541m above sea level. Promenade around Mau Son in the morning, visit our Dao friends. Then, ride down to Lang Son to have lunch.
On the road back to Hanoi, there are a few traditional villages and also Buddhist pagodas that we could stop and pay a visit. Alternatively, we can ride some back roads to avoid the busy highway 1B.
