Mai Chau is, in fact, a very popular weekend motorbike tours our customers booked. From Hanoi, you can easily get there in about five hours following river roads until Hoa Binh. Then you head up the mountain up and down to Mai Chau valley.
Mai Chau Motorbike Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Hanoi – Mai Chau, ~200km, ~6h
Today is the first day of this 2 days Mai Chau on two wheels. To get out of Hanoi safely, we will have a short briefing to let you know about the rules. In addition, the guide will show you how to understand him by his body language. Finally, we start around 9.30am after the rush hours.
Once out of the Red River Delta, which brims with traditional farming activity, we pass through limestone monoliths and into foothills populated by Muong people. Then we head straight at the main range near Hoa Binh hydroelectric plant. In fact, you have a challenge right away – Cun pass. It’s not a high or long pass but quite steep and be ready for it. In addition, we have a few more passes like Thung Nhuoi and Thung Khe before breaching a high and beautiful forested pass, which descends into the hidden valley of Mai Chau. In the evening, we can enjoy a local dinner and overnight in a beautiful village at the edge of a river. After dinner, you can spend the evening sitting together around a fire and join in a Thai traditional music show. In their traditional attire, typical of their culture, Thai women invite visitors to participate in the Xoe dance. To the rhythmical and ebullient music, the hosts and guests will dance for hours hand-in-hand. When they get tired, they stop for a while to drink special sticky rice liquor called “ruou can”. Day 2: Mai Chau – Hanoi. ~220 km, ~7 h.
In the morning, after breakfast, we ride to Hanoi. Lunch on the way. We would retrace some parts of the road from yesterday because there isn’t enough time to ride in a bigger loop. However, we will try to make it as different as possible.
